About Stuart EMDR

Melinda Johnson, LCSW

Meet Your Therapist

Melinda Johnson, LCSW, QS,  is dedicated to your healing. As a certified Transformational EMDR™ therapist, Melinda focuses on helping her clients with Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Codependence, Parenting, Christian Marriage, Spiritual Trauma, and related issues.

Melinda is also an EMDRIA Approved Consultant™, offering consultation to EMDR Trained Clinicians who are seeking consultation hours toward their EMDR Certified Therapist™ credential. She is also a Qualified Supervisor (QS) for Registered Clinical Social Work Interns in Florida.

Beyond EMDR, Melinda has received advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) from the Beck Institute, as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

Much of Melinda’s work is at the intersection of Transformational EMDR and Christian faith, helping clients who self-identify as Christian deepen their healing through their faith. While many of her clients are protestant, Catholic, Coptic, and Orthodox Christian, she enjoys working with clients of any faith and respects each client’s belief system.

In addition to her work as a therapist, Melinda is a co-author of Transformational EMDR, The Manual; Shapiro's Aspiration for EMDR Beyond the Disease Model (Dobo et al., 2016). In this book, Melinda writes of the sufficiency of the EMDR therapeutic model and the importance of therapist preparation for client healing.

She also has a comprehensive manuscript that is currently with a publisher. The text is grounded in ancient patristic knowledge with applications of modern, evidence-based therapies and offers an Eastern Christian model for mental and spiritual health that is very relevant to today's modern mental health crisis.

Melinda is an invited speaker to parishes and diocesan engagements focusing on mental and spiritual health. She was an officer on the board of the Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion from 2015-2021 and was a founding member of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops’ Mental Health Task Force in 2019-2021. She is a long-time student of Byzantine chant.

A native of Stuart, FL, Melinda is a military veteran and a former law enforcement officer.
